Detailed course outline
DiSC: Understanding personal styles
Summary:
- Learn all DiSC styles: key behaviors, strengths, weaknesses, and needs
- Increase awareness of your DiSC style and its influence on how you lead
- Learn a method for recognizing others’ styles and how to adapt to other styles
- Review Everything DiSC on Catalyst and how it can support relationship building
Objectives:
Success in effective people leadership comes from a foundation of understanding ourselves – our communication and leadership style – and understanding the styles of others. Creating deep self-awareness of one’s leadership style enables opportunity to build relationships, which in turn allows for the formation of cohesive teams.Using the Everything DiSC® Management on Catalyst™ assessment, participants will gain knowledge of their DiSC style and learn to how to apply that knowledge in building relationships.
Your role as a leader
Summary:
- Examine leadership versus management behaviors and sources of authority
- Learn key aspects of emotional intelligence and its importance as a leader
- Explore situational leadership as a framework in leading
- Identify changes you want to make in your leadership approaches
Objectives:
In this session participants will learn about the role of a leader through exploration of several leadership models and how the models can help a leader to understand the framework of people leadership. Participants will learn about role emotional intelligence can play in leadership.
Management communications
Summary:
- Understand the importance and breadth of your communication as a manager
- Learn specific leadership language strategies
- Build communication skills related to listening
- Explore communication methods and impacts
- Understand key components of effective meetings
Objectives:
During this session participants will learn about important communications skills, how they can develop and use their leadership language and develop strategies for working more effectively with their employees.
Owning your work & time
Summary:
- Examine your habits in how you manage your work and time
- Explore best practices and tools for prioritizing and managing work and time
- Learn how and when to delegate, including critical steps to ensure success when delegating
- Create an action plan for delegating a specific task
Objectives:
During this session, participants will examine their habits with time management and learn about and apply tools and methods to improve how they invest their time. Participants will learn about various approaches to delegation and the critical role they play as a leader when delegating.
Creating a healthy work culture
Summary:
- Examine the importance of the work culture
- Understand the role trust plays in work culture
- Explore strategies for creating a culture of trust
- Gain insight into employee motivation
- Identify approaches to support motivation of employees
Objectives:
During this session, participants will explore the role trust plays in their relationships and teams and strategies for developing environments of trust. The participants will explore what’s motivating/demotivating to themselves as leaders and as well as to others’ based on their DiSC styles.
Coaching for performance
Summary:
- Understand conditions needed for positive performance
- Understand the skills needed to be an effective coach
- Learn a coaching model for use in a variety of situations
- Learn when to apply various forms of coaching
Objectives:
During this session, participants will reflect upon their role as a coach and its level of significance to contributing to an employee’s job performance. The participants will learn about different forms of coaching and how to leverage the G.R.O.W. coaching model.
Conflict & crucial conversations
Summary:
- Examine conflict including healthy and unhealthy behaviors and their triggers in conflict
- Identify key elements of a crucial conversation and strategies for success
- Develop a plan for a crucial conversation
- Learn skills to apply in crucial conversations
Objectives:
During this session, participants will explore the value that conflict can bring to relationships and team and the differences between healthy and unhealthy conflict. They will gain an understanding of crucial conversations, how to identify them and strategies facilitating successful interactions.
Leading change
Summary:
- Explore change and transition models
- Consider change at a personal and leadership level
- Understand various reactions to change
- Explore elements and importance of resiliency
- Examine leadership approaches during change and their impact
Objectives:
During this session, participants will explore how change and transition can impact individuals and teams and how they as leaders, can utilize strategies and approaches to help employees move effectively through change.
Feedback on our program
I came into the program not really sure what to think but the actual experience was by far a win in my books because it taught me so much about myself and is still helping me now with others at work and in life in general. Big thanks.
I did not expect to be able to reflect on myself and develop the personal growth and insight that I experienced.
Being able to learn from the facilitators and videos were wonderful, but additionally hearing from the other people in the course made it a complete experience for me. You guys did amazing and I am so thankful I was able to participate in this.
This course made an immediate impact on how I go about my workday as well as home life.
Going into the program I expected it to be your typical leadership/management training but the facilitators really kept the information engaging and that was a great experience.
The topics and material that was covered was very helpful for individuals that are a new manager such as myself. Creating good habits at the start is easier than breaking bad habits. Therefore I would recommend this course to individuals that are early in their manger role.
Both facilitators were VERY knowledgeable and had great examples to provide. They were also helpful in getting the class to talk through situations that individual class members were experiencing.
I left with more information and tools than I expected and really enjoyed the class.
Besides being more fun than anticipated, the content and the structure of the program made a strong impact. And it’s nice to know that I can reach out to the coaches after the program is over.
I opted to do this program in lieu of a professional conference this year and couldn’t be happier about my decision. I feel renewed!
I came in thinking it would be some very generic information, but loved all the practical tools that were provided.
