Great people leaders are life long learners consuming blog posts, podcasts, articles, videos and books to gain perspective and increase knowledge.

Leverage your vacation time this summer with a good book!

Here are 4 books I recommend for this summer.

Get Perspective. . .

White Fragility: Why It’s So Hard for White People to Talk About Racism by Robin DiAngelo.

This book disrupted my thinking as a white person.  And that’s a good thing!

The book explores counterproductive reactions white people have when their assumptions about race are challenged, and how these reactions maintain racial inequality.

Get Educated. . .

Upstream: The Quest to Solve Problems Before They Happen by Dan Heath.

This is a great book looking at how to prevent problems before they happen.

Heath draws on insights from hundreds of interviews with unconventional problem solvers who have overcome obstacles and scored impactful victories by switching to an upstream mindset.

Stop firefighting problems and learn to prevent them from happening in the first place.

Get Your Mind Thinking. . .

The Coffee Bean: A Simple Lesson to Create Positive Change by Jon Gordon and Damon West.

A quick read, yet very sticky with what at first seems like such simple concepts.

This fable shows us how to transform our environment, overcome challenges, and create positive change.

Get Your Leadership Geek On. . .

First, Break All The Rules: What the World’s Greatest Managers Do Differently by Marcus Buckingham.

This is the classic leadership book which we use within our highly successful #Leadwell people leadership training program.

I recently re-read this book and was smiling at times as I relearned and affirmed why great leaders are so, so important.

This book pulls responses from more than 80,000 interviews to answer the question of what the world’s best managers do.

Be a life long learner and lead well!

I strive read 30 to 40 books a year.  Here is a list of the books I’ve read in 2020 on my personal blog, Instigating Men.
