We all invest time and energy in relationships with those with whom we work and those who work for us. For leaders leading well, it is very important to assess where they are investing their time/energy and the return on investment they are expecting. It’s not as simple as spending more time with those with whom they work most closely.
To raise the tide of leadership effectiveness, a leader needs to analyze the status of a relationship – both current and future desire - and the importance the relationship within the current season of leading.
We use this exercise often with executives and mid-level managers to review and assess their peer relationships.
